Beasley Update

Your Weekly Beasley update...

TKOT's boy Michael Beasley is coming along well for that #1 pick in next years NBA Draft. We're claiming him and we're campaigning him to be the Wolves #1 pick next year. Here is the update...

Beasley: 5 games. 30 points a game. 16.6 rebounds a game.

Wolves: 1-9. Worst record in the NBA

Random Beasley fact: Was named MVP of the McDonald's All-American game.

So far so good ladies & gentleman. So this Thanksgiving weekend be thankful for 30 point games from Beasley and multiple disappointing losses by the T-puppies. I couldn't be happier.

Fuck Kevin McHale for us to rely on 20 year old talent to try to win us a championship in what 6 years? when all we needed was two seasoned (uninjured veterans) to lead us the way to a NBA Title. Just think even if Troy Hudson was healthy we would've gone to the NBA Title in 03-04 to beat the Pistons.

I'm a big fan of Beasley, he's a BEAST. (Michael BEASTley, nice nickname?) But doesn't he play power forward, which is of course the same position as Big Al Jefferson, who has been and probably will be the only bright spot for us this season?

I think we need to go with a center or a big time perimeter scorer like OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Brandon Rush, Derrick Rose, etc. and finally part ways with Rashad McCants (trade him away or just don't re-sign him at the end of the year) so the traffic jam at the guard position isn't as bad. That way we could build around Foye (if he can stay healthy), Eric Gordon (who I hope we get), Brewer, Big Al, and Ryan Gomes...what do you think?

To “The Truth”-

First off, I love the nickname. I’m going to use it in future blog entries and more than likely not give you any props for it. Be prepared for that.

Second off, it’s the NBA. Set positions don’t mean as much as they do in college. You have guys like Lebron, Kobe & T-Mac that are all 6-8 bringing up the ball. Only a handful of teams have a true center. Here are some examples of teams with “shorter guys” playing both blocks: Curry (6’11)/Randolph (6’9)- Knicks, Wallace (6’9)/ Thomas (6’9)- Bulls, Okur (6’11)/Boozer (6’9)- Jazz & Camby (6’11)/Martin (6’9)- Nuggets. In Utah and Denver’s scenario their centers aren’t only down low guys, they move around. Okur shoots frickin three’s. My point being is that you can definitely roll with two power forwards and be fine.

Big Al plays a straight post game. For what I’ve seen of Beasley he plays both. Beastley plays more of a perimeter game than Al does. Big Al is listed at 6’10 and Beasley at 6’9. Maybe they are fudging on their height but who doesn’t on these roster sheets? I don’t see this being a problem at all with Al and the Beast on the same team. So Big Al gives up an inch or two when guarding Duncan or Kaman. Who cares? This happens all the time in the league. The Suns and Mavericks at the end of games have Dirk and Amare guarding centers and both of those teams are awesome.

I would love a kid like Gordon or Rose but I’m sticking to Beasley. Having two dominant power forwards/center would be tough to beat. It would open up a lot of easy three’s. Why does everyone want to get rid of McCants? He’s finally showing signs of being a good NBA player. Let’s keep a guy like this for once.

Yeah that's definitely true. I watched a couple of Beasley's past games and he can hit the deep perimeter J but also bring it inside and bang down low, so they could find a way to make it work with Big Al. Jefferson plays more like a center anyways.

It's not that I hate McCants, I'm just high on Foye. Rashad has looked great in a couple games so far this season, but I just hope he can keep it consistent and finally show that potential he had when coming out of UNC. Injuries have killed his career so far, so he might be capable of being a big time player if he stays healthy. Foye has everything you'd want in a young guard, except for the fact he has a bad knee so young in his career. That worries me. Even though he's looked shaky out there at times, I think Corey Brewer will fit perfectly with us, because he's so versatile...

We just need to add some veteran talent (NOT Antoine Walker) to balance out the youth and we could be a very tough team very soon

I wouldn't say very soon. The Hawks have had great young players for a few years now and haven't done a thing. Give us 2-3 more years and maybe we will be back on track. That's if McHale doesn't mess things up in the draft again.
